Mattancherry was part of the large trade routes around the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean that facilitated the movement of not just spices and other commodities, but also of faiths, cultures, languages, and people. It has been the favourite destination of several communities for centuries. Jews, Chinese, Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch, British and Indian groups like Gujaratis and Konkanis have settled here. Its narrow alleys preserve a host of artefacts, tangible and intangible in several shops, museums and homes.

In this walk, we will visit different points including the Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, Ginger Museum, Police Museum, Jewish cemetery and the remains of the synagogue of Kadavumbhagam etc.

This guided tour is free.
