Globally, graffiti has become intertwined with the culture of hip hop and the myriad international styles derived from the Philadelphia and New York City Subway graffiti.
Initiated as a medium of social and political expression merged with art, it is now often considered as vandalism which is a punishable crime.
In the capital city of Delhi, the global phenomenon is displayed in the Street Art festivals that began a few years ago, and have now become an annual affair. We will take a walk through the Lodhi Art District: India’s first open art district having more than 30 pieces of street art by various artists under the festival organised by St+Art India Foundation, which aims to make public art accessible to a wider audience. These works of art have been visible on many walls in the Lodhi Colony around the Meher Chand Market and Khanna Market.
The Instameet will focus on photography around this street art, where we will take interesting pictures while gauging the fine artwork by artists from across the world. We will also feature the top 10 photographs from the Instameet on our Instagram channel. The focus of the walk will be to understand and appreciate the art around us, and also click unique pictures capturing the interest of larger communities on Instagram who may not be aware or have access to this beautiful art district of Delhi.
