Gekar Sinyik, popularly known as Ganga Lake, is one of the prominent tourist sites in Itanagar. Located 6 kilometers west of the capital city of Itanagar, the lake with its lush vegetations provides a cathartic retreat from the maddening crowd of the city. However, the calm green waters of the lake have a turbulent undercurrent of folklores that have been passed down for centuries. The Nyishi communities have declared it as their heritage site because of its association with the tragic story of Tai Bida, which is lost to many and remains as a fading memory for few.
This heritage walks focuses on reconnecting Gekar Sinyik, a Nyishi Heritage site to the Nyishi folklore of Tai Bida and also explores how the lake got entangled with the folklore of the Chutia Dynasty who ruled Upper Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh from the 12th to 17th centuries.
